Busy in Kashmir functions, JK admin skips Poonch gunbattle!

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 21: Even as the administration is busy holding cultural and other activities in Kashmir, the top brass of the government has been seemingly skipping the deadly situation in Poonch where at least nine Indian Army jawans have lost their lives in the last few days.
While heavy gunfight has been going on in the area, the top brass of the government in Jammu and Kashmir has been missing from the scene and busy holding events like Jashne Dal in Kashmir. Observers said none of the senior functionaries in the government have been visiting the area.
The response of the Jammu and Kashmir government looks allegedly so callous that on the day when wreath laying ceremony of five bravehearts of the Indian Army was held in Jammu, none of the top functionaries of the JK administration attended the event.
Observers said the Raj Bhawan should have been focused on the Poonch where a fierce gunfight is going on. “But Jammu and Kashmir seems to be the victim of misplaced priorities due to the state of administration,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
As per reports, the ongoing operation against militants holed up high in the Poonch ridges in Jammu is the longest in the area since 2003.
Officials sources say there is no clarity about how many militants the Army is fighting, and how long they have been hiding in the thick forests on the Pir Panjal spurs that overlook the districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
Nine soldiers, including two Junior Commissioned Officers or JCOs, have been killed in the line of duty, fighting these terrorists for the last eleven days. It is unclear if any of the terrorists have been killed since no bodies have been found yet.
Army chief General MM Naravane is on a two-day visit of Jammu region during which he will visit the forward areas along the Line of Control where security forces are trying to end the fierce battle with terrorists, who, sources say, are trained by Pakistani commandos.
