JU holds talk of Prof. Jonathan Lynch in collaboration with AAPS, IISER-Mohali

JAMMU, Oct 22: Science Talk of internationally acclaimed root biologist Prof. Jonathan Paul Lynch, University Distinguished Professor, The Pennsylvania State University, USA was organized online by IISER, Mohali and Department of Botany, University of Jammu in collaboration with Asia Association of Plant Scientists (AAPS).
Prof. Lynch, pioneer in the field of root phenotyping and root biology in the world, delivered a talk on “Roots of the Second Green Revolution: Phenes, Phenotypes, and Phenotyping for 21st Century crops”. Prof. Lynch presented an excellent talk and showcased cutting edge technologies developed in his roots lab at Penn State University, USA. He emphasized the importance of root phene, phenotypes and root traits for developing crops of the 21st Century in the era of Climate Change.
Prof. Manoj K. Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu appreciated the presentation of Prof. Lynch for motivating the audience with state of the art technologies developed by his lab for understanding crop roots and their role in molecular breeding. Prof. Dhar motivated the audience and expressed his satisfaction for the activities conducted by AAPS in collaboration with Jammu University.
Following the talk, celebration of AAPS association with Russian Society of Plant Physiologists and Israeli Society of Plant Sciences was organized by Prof. Sanjana Koul, School of Biotechnology. Prof. Dmitry A. Los, President Russian Society and Prof. Shimon Rachmilevitch, President Israeli Society addressed the audience and discussed several points of collaboration with AAPS. Prof. Eviatar Nevo, President AAPS thanked Prof. Lynch for his excellent presentation and welcomed societies collaborating with AAPS. Event ended with thanks to all the participants.
