Foundation stone of Hav Sarup Singh Memorial Dwar laid

JAMMU, Oct 22: A grand function was organized to lay the foundation stone of Hav Sarup Singh Memorial Dwar at Upper Gadigarh, near Jammu Airport. Hav. Sarup Singh is Mahavir Chakra Awardee of 1962 Indo-China war, who gave his supreme sacrifice while resisting against the mighty Chinese army (PLA) at Bhujang Post in Ladakh with his platoon.
Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor was the chief guest on this occasion who raised the curtain and laid the foundation stone in presence of Purnima Sharma, Dy Mayor Guest of Honour and Prof (Dr) Youdhvir Singh, Councillor, Ward 73 , Gadigarh. A galaxy of prominent citizens, councillors of various wards of JMC was also present to witness the function with zeal and patriotism. Public present there raised the slogans in favour of India Army, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Hav Sarup Singh and the chief guests.
Brig Gurmeet Singh Shan, Director Sainik Board J&K on this occasion gave the key note address in which the back drop of every moment of the night of supreme sacrifice of Mahavir Chakra Awardee soldier Hav Sarup Singh was narrated by him.
Purnima Sharma, Dy Mayor also addressed the public and congratulated the people of the area , family members of the martyr.
Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor in his address applauded the role of governments, both at Union Level and Union Territory level for adopting a policy to glorify the martyrdom of all soldiers by naming roads, school and institutes after the name of national heroes and warriors who laid down their lives for safe guarding national boundaries. At the end, Amrik Singh, the younger son of Martyr Hav Sarup Singh delivered the formal vote of thanks to the chief guest Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta , the guest of honour Purnima Sharma , the councillor of Ward No 73 Prof Youdhvir Singh and Brig. Gurmeet Singh Shaan, the Engineering Div IV of JMC, the public of the area, army officers and soldiers from JKLI, Ladakh Scouts, Army band and the media .
The programme was anchored by Charanjit Singh, Retd SDM in a very meticulous manner.
