| Diabetes detection cum awareness camp organized | | |

JAMMU, Nov 13: On the eve of world diabetes day, falling on 14h November, a diabetes detection cum awareness camp was organized at Jammu Diabetes and Thyroid Care Center, Gandhi Nagar. More than 100 people were screened for diabetes, four new cases where detected, who were unaware of their diabetes. Majority of the screened patients had previous history of diabetes; however their blood sugar levels where uncontrolled.
Dr Raj Kumar Sharma, the diabetologist advised the patients about the importance of exercise and proper diet and regular monitoring of blood sugar which can prevent the long term compilations in the form of Nephropathy, Retinopathy and Cardio Vascular diseases. World Diabetes Day is celebrated in this centenary year with the theme “Access to diabetes care: if not now, When?”. World Diabetes Day became an official United Nation day in 2006. It coincides with the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting who discovered insulin in 1922. |
