GDC Darhal organizes symposium on "Drug Abuse" | | | Early Times Report RAJOURI, Nov 16: A symposium on the theme "Drug Abuse" was organized by Govt Degree College (GDC) Darhal in which participants presented their views on a burning issue which is ruining the society particularly the young generation. Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college Prof Sumanesh Jasrotia motivated the students not even to touch the drugs in their life. He said that Drug abuse or substance abuse refers to the use of certain chemicals for the purpose of creating pleasurable effects on the brain. He told that there are over 190 million drug users around the world and the problem has been increasing at alarming rates, especially among young adults under the age of 30. He also told that situation is alarming in J&K as about 6 Lakh people i.e. 4.6% population is affected by drugs and the serious issue is that 90% of these drug addicts are in the range of 17-33 years. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr Riaz Mohd Arif of Sem-V, Hashim Malik of Sem-I and Tazia of Sem-III were adjudged First, Second and Third respectively. Shariq Ali of Sem-I, Hasim Ahmed of Sem-V and Mohd. Imran of Sem-V got consolation prizes. Dr Asif, Dr. Mukhtiar, Mahwish, Dr Javed Ahmed Mir and Farzana were the jury members. Others present on the occasion were Altaf, Qayoom, Safeer, Avez and Saddam. The programme was attended by a large number of students of the college. |
