GDC Chenani celebrates ‘International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women’

Udhampur, Nov 25: Government Degree College, Chenani under the auspices of its Social Sciences Club ‘The Awakening’, NSS Unit “PRAYATNA” and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) organized a Program on the ‘International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women’ on 25th Nov. 2021. The awareness program on the theme comprising of extempore and poster-making competition was held with the aim to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world, calling for global action to increase awareness, promote advocacy and create opportunities for discussion on challenges and solutions. The students of the College presented their ideas on the occasion and expressed that violence against women and girls (VAWG) is one of the most widespread, persistent and devastating human rights violations in the world today and it remains largely unreported due to the impunity, silence, stigma and shame surrounding it.
The students prepared posters in an on-the-spot competition laying the foundation for the road towards a world free of gender-based violence in which 55 students participated among which Meenakshi Thakur of B.A semester 3rd bagged the first position whereas Sonia Katoch of B.A semester 3rd bagged second position and third position was bagged by Sania of B.A semester 3.
