Overcast condition and fog keeps Kashmir cold

Srinagar, Nov 25: Gulmarg is the coldest place in Kashmir on Thursday at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius as the mercury rose due to an overcast sky in the valley during the night.
Night temperature at most places showed improvement, but fog condition made life difficult as the MeT office said, weather is most likely to remain cold and dry till November end across Jammu and Kashmir.
Srinagar recorded 0.4 degree Celsius against the 0.3 on Wednesday. However, fog engulfed most places including the famous Dal Lake and Boulevard road.
In the Ladakh region, at airforce station of Drass the temperature was recorded at minus 6.4 degrees Celsius against the minus 8.7 yesterday, an improvement of around two degrees in night temperature.
In Leh, it was minus 4.8 degrees Celsius against the minus 8.3 a day ago and at Karrgil it was minus 3.6 against the minus 5.8 on Wednesday.
The MeT office said: “The Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the valley with minimum temperature recorded at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius. Freezing cold wave conditions remained with thick fog making enjoyment for tourists a difficult proposition.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded minus 0.2 degree Celsius against the minus 2 yesterday, an improvement of two degrees in the night temperature due to overcast sky.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway showed improvement from its minus 0.6 degree Celsius a day ago and in Kokernag it was 1.2 degrees Celsius against minus 0.1 the previous day.
In frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, the minimum temperature was recorded at 0.1 degree Celsius against the minus 0.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the MeT office said.
