GDC Darhal organized symposium “Secularism and the Constitution of India”

Rajouri, Nov 29: A symposium on the theme “Secularism and the Constitution of India” was organized by Department of Political Science Govt. Degree College Darhal in which students of the college deliberated on the significance of secularism in a country like India.
Mohd. Shafeeq Malik Chief Accounts Officer Govt. Medical College Rajouri was the Guest of Honour in the symposium. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Malik appreciated the role of the Deptt. of Political Science of the college for providing a golden opportunity to the students to discuss on a very important topic related with the unity and integrity of the country.
He motivated the students to always take part in such competitions as such platforms will result in the growth and development of their personality. Principal of the college Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia congratulated the students of the college for their participation in the symposium on a very important topic. He said that Constitution of India allows equal respect and recognition for all religions and there is no official religion in India.
An individual has the right to practice, propagate and profess any religion. He said that the Constitution of India is the supreme law of India. He told that the document lays down the framework that demarcates fundamental political code, structure, procedures, powers, and duties of government institutions and sets out fundamental rights, directive principles, and the duties of citizens. Earlier in his welcome address Dr. Jawaid Ahmad Mir HOD Political Science discussed in detail the Constitution of India. He told that the Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949, and came into effect on January 26, 1950.
He told that it was drafted by the Constituent Assembly, which was elected by the elected members of the provincial assemblies. He threw light on the Father of Indian Constitution Dr. B R Ambedkar. It is the longest written constitution of any sovereign country in the world. Senior faculty member HOD Urdu Dr. Imtiaz Hussain Shah also spoke on this occasion. He said that the students of the college are participating in all the events organized by the college and this is resulting in better development of their personalities.
Dr. Ather Aziz Raina HOD Mathematics motivated the students to always take part in such programmes. He said that the students of the college are learning a lot and which is a good sign for better academic growth of the institution.
