Inter-College Sports tournament of Cluster University begins at GGM Science College

Jammu, Dec 1: Inter-College Sports tournament of Cluster University of Jammu was inaugurated today at GGM Science College ground by the Vice-Chancellor of the Cluster University of Jammu who was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function.
The welcome address was presented by Dr. Ravender Tickoo, Nodal Principal, GGM Science College where he formally welcomed Vice-Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu. Prof. Bachan Lal, other dignitaries from the Cluster University, Prof. Jatinder Khajuria (Registrar), Prof. Bhupinder Singh (DAA), Principals of various Constituent Colleges of Cluster University of Jammu, Dr.Vinod Bakshi, Sports Coordinator CLUJ and Physical Director GGM Science College Jammu faculty members of Sports Committee from various Degree Colleges of Jammu, media persons and participants of the Sports events. Prof. Tickoo, in his welcome address, emphasised on the role and importance of Sports in shaping up of the overall personality of an individual. He, further, reiterated that Sports help the students to maintain good health, develop leadership skills, to overcome failure, to handle success and to become better individuals. He wished good luck t all the participants. The first match Football match of the tournament was played between GGM Science College and MAM College in which after tough fight, MAM college won the match by 03-01. Before the start of match an exhibition match of Tug of War was played between GGM Science College and SPMR College of Commerce in which GGM Science College won the match. The Sports activity of the Cluster University of Jammu resumed after a gap of 1 ½ year due to Pandemic, and students enthusiastically participated in the sports activities. Prof. Bachan Lal, in his inaugural address expressed his concern over the present situations due to COVID -19 pandemic and asked the students to follow COVID -19 protocol by taking all the preventive measures during the tournament. He apprised the audience that this Inter- College tournament is being organised after a gap of two years due to prevailing COVID -19 pandemic.
He lauded Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director GGM Science College and also the organiser of this Sports event for this sincere efforts in organising this event despite several challenges due to COVID -19 situation. Prof. Bachan Lal emphasized that Sports are an integral part of curriculum and helps in inculcating various skills in the students and declared the event open. Amongst the other Heads of the Departments of the various departments of the college and Sports Committee members attended the function. The inaugural function was anchored by Prof. Preeti Dogra. The match was officiated by Aman Banathia, Aman Sudan, Dil Bahadur, Dheeraj.
