| GDC Basohli celebrates World Soil Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
BASOHLI, Dec 5: Government Degree College (GDC) Basohli organized an online lecture to celebrate “World Soil Day’’, under the aegis of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr Nidhi Kotwal, Principal, GDC Basohli. Prof Gurdyal, HOD Geography, GLDM College delivered the lecture on the theme “Halt Soil Salinization, Boost Soil Productivity”. In his address, he stated that soil in most parts of the country is becoming saline due to the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. He discussed various methods for the reduction of salinization of soil.
He stressed up on increasing productivity of soil by means of organic manures and applying organic farming practices. Prof Gurdyal also quoted the success of Sikkim, which is the first state in the World that is 100% organic.
The event was organized by Dr Kehar Singh, HOD, Chemistry, GDC Basohli. All the faculty members and 31 students of the college participated in the event. The vote of thanks was presented by Prof Pawan Kumar.
