KVK Samba celebrates World Soil Day

SAMBA, Dec 5: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba celebrated World Soil Day 2021 in association with Department of Agriculrure, Samba on 5th of December at KVK Samba SKUAST-Jammu and its campaign “Halt Soil Salinization, boost soil productivity”. The programme was attended by more than 90 farmers, farm women and field officers of development departments participated. The programme was organized under the aegis of Vice Chancellor Dr JP Sharma and under the guidance of Dr. S.K Gupta, Director Extension (KVKs).
Dr Vinod Gupta, Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Samba in his address highlighted that such awareness programmes shall be the regular feature for the farming community at village level to make them aware of the balanced use of fertilizers to increase productivity and maintain soil health. Speaking on the occasion, he also highlighted the policies of State as well as Central Government being implemented for the overall welfare and benefit of the farming community.
Varinder Dogra, SDAO Samba accentuated on the role of soil and soil biodiversity.
He also deliberated on some advanced soil management technologies, such as, conservation agriculture, STCR-based soil nutrient recommendations, micro-nutrient management and microbial formulations for decomposition of crop residues.
Dr Neerja Sharma, elaborated upon the adoption of organic farming, vermicompost production and other measures of soil conservation. The farmers were also advised to use natural farming practices. Dr Abhay Kumar Sinha discussed in detail about the mandates and functions of KVK. He stressed upon the need for adoption of Resource conservation technologies for sustainable agriculture and deliberated upon use of organic inputs for improving soil health.
Initially, Dr Shalini Khajuria, KVK Samba in her welcome address emphasized the importance of soil in agricultural productivity and expressed concern over the rising soil erosion in the district. She stressed upon that farmers should use organic farming techniques to promote soil health.
More than 90 Soil Health Cards distributed to the farmers, farm women of district Samba.
The programme was also attended by Sunil Gupta, JAA, Sumesh Sharma, JAA, Manjeet Singh AEO and other department officials. At the end vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Saurav Gupta Scientists, KVK Samba.
