Natrang artist Rahul bags Junior Fellowship

Jammu, Jan 11: Jammu:Yet another artist of Natrang brought laurels for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir for being selected for the award of Junior Fellowship for the year 2019-20. This time it is Rahul Singh, who is the only one from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir this year, who has been selected for prestigious fellowship in the field of Theatre. Natrang Director Balwant Thakur while complimenting Rahul Singh said that it’s a proud moment not only for Natrang Jammu but for the entire region as only one artist has been able to qualify this. Natrang has a huge history of bringing top positions in the field of art and Culture and Rahul’s achievement has added yet another feather to the long list of Natrang’s accomplishments. This National honour to Rahul will inspire many to be a part of Natrang and strive to excel and achieve.
Born and brought up in Jammu, Rahul has been practicing theatre since 2006 at Natrang Theatre Group under the guidance of Padmashree Balwant Thakur.
A National Scholarship holder for 2 years (2011-2013) from Ministry of Culture Government of India for folk/traditional and indigenous arts to learn the new methodology of Dogri Folk theatre in Contemporary Style. Initially he started his career in theatre as an actor and has acted in over 70 plays with more than 300 performances so far that were staged at State, Zonal, National and international festivals.
He had been a Salient part of 15 member troupe of artists who participated in Jammu and Kashmir Festival held at London in the year 2016. He has participated in more than 30 National Theatre Festivals organized by the prestigious Institutions like Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, and Indian Council for Cultural Relations, National School of Drama, New Delhi, North Zone Cultural Centre Patiala, Punjab Naat Shalla Amritsar, Vivechana Jabalapur, Nandikar Kolkata, Bharat Bhawan Bhopal, Commonwealth Games- 2010, New Delhi, Theatre Olympics 2018 etc. He has done lead roles in most of the repertory plays of Natrang and has received accolades from theatre experts.
The actor stepped in to direction in the year 2015 and directed his first play “Bahut Bada Sawaal” written by Mohan Rakesh, he further directed numerous plays.
Rahul has been a privileged participant in the 20 day long Young director‟s National theatre workshop organized by National School of Drama for selected young aspiring directors across India from 10th March to 30th March, 2016 who were trained under eminent directors and theatre practitioners of the country. He has also been a privileged member in a workshop conducted by TIE ( Theater in Education) in association with National School of drama in the year 2010. Rahul Singh has been training the youth and has conducted over 4-5 workshops and has trained the young lot of Natang by special theatre techniques and has been a vibrant trainer at Children Summer Theatre Camp workshops organized by Natrang.
He is highly skilled in technical‟s as well and has participated as an volunteer in famous festivals as Technical Coordinator at “Natya Samagama” organized by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi in association with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in the year 2016, technical assistant in Poorvottar Theatre Festival organized by National School of Drama which provided an opportunity for theatre aficionados of Jammu to have an experience of the modern day theatre practices in the North-Eastern region of the country.
Rahul is an active practitioner of theatre and aspires to direct plays that shall sway the audiences and make a fresh vision of theatre.
