Sikh leaders, organizations welcome court order of election of GPCs

JAMMU, Jan 14: Prominent Sikh leaders and organizations have welcomed the judgment of High Court which held that committees which are presently looking after the affairs of the Gurdwaras are continuing unauthorized in office and cannot be allowed to continue further in such a manner.
The court had held that in view of the administration, superintendence and management of Sikh Gurdwaras and its properties in J&K, constitution of District Gurdwara Prabandhak committees is imperative and to run day to day administration of Gurdwaras government shall come up with an appropriate notification in terms of rule 63-C of rules for constituting and nominating members to the committees and government shall also ensure that none of the members of the erstwhile committee whose term has been expired are nominated as member and the committee be constituted of independent persons of high integrity and social standing within a period of three weeks with the further direction to initiate process for conducting elections to the Gurdwara Prabandhak committees of the Gurdwara of the Union Territory in accordance with provisions of the act of 1973 expeditiously.
The members appealed LG Manoj Sinha Ji to direct the concern officers dealing the subject which includes Financial Commissioner Revenue and Secretary Law and other to implement the judgment henceforth and also appealed to the entire administration to constitute the committee immediately for the smooth working of all the Gurdwaras administration in the entire UT of J&K till election process is initiated and concluded accordingly.
