NAPDDR organizes awareness program on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures"

JAMMU, Jan 14: Under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), Jammu & Kashmir State Level Coordinating Agency (JKSLCA) in collaboration with National Institute of Social Defense (NISD), MOSJE, GOI today organized a day-long awareness program on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures" for community members at JKSPYM Seminar Hall. By strictly following the COVID-19 protocol, around 30 members participated in the program. Resource persons, Pooja Kumari and Shikha from NGO delivered a lecture on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures". As per National Action Plan on Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE), Government of India (GOI), programs like these need to be conducted on a regular basis covering all strata of society.
Resource person talked about the motive of the program which is to generate awareness regarding the Drug Abuse, preventive measures and Treatment. She explained that Drug/ alcohol abuse is raising day by day in the society and youth of our society is involving at large number in the addiction. She discussed various types of drugs (tobacco, caffeine, depressants, stimulants etc.) and how they are consumed.
Then, Shikha generated awareness among members about various services provided by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment for Drug Abuse Prevention and Treatment i.e., Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts (IRCA), Outreach and Drop-in Centre (ODIC) and Community Peer Led Intervention (CPLI).
Pamphlets were distributed among the participants. Program ended with discussions and Question-answer session and resource persons patiently answered all the queries of the participants. At the end, Komal Sharma, SLCA official concluded the program with vote of thanks.
