Sajad Lone, Bukhari, criticise govt for 'Suryanamaskar' directive
1/14/2022 10:37:28 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Jan 14: J&K Peoples Conference President Sajad Gani Lone on Friday criticised the government's directive for "Surya namaskar" and said the "brute force of radicals" in this administration will not succeed.
The Jammu and Kashmir governments directive asking college students and faculty members to perform "Surya namaskar" triggered a controversy with former two Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti terming the directive as "reflection of communal mindset". Provincial spokesman of National Conference Imran Nabi Dar asked for the roll back of the order.
Lone said the "will of the people" will eventually prevail.
"Why is the govt (government) so insensitive? Now comes the surya namaskar episode. I wish the govt understands that along many bloody battles fought in Kashmir- of immense importance was the war between liberal and radicals", Lone said in a statement.
He said these were not "verbose battles".
"The blood of the Kashmir liberal Muslim was spilled on the streets", He said and added the liberals fought to keep the secular liberal traditions of Kashmir alive. "They fought the violence. They fought the bullets".
The liberals rendered sacrifices. They used guns against us. They coerced us. They threatened us. They failed. "And you will fail too". You are wasting your time as they were, Sajad said. " How your actions undo all that the liberals had earned", he added.
Sajad further maintained that religious radicals irrespective of which religion they belong to are birds of the same flock-long lost cousins.
"They share traits of intolerance, hegemony & monopoly on morality. And Inshallah (God willing) both have a shared destiny to fail. The radicals reveal themselves - who they are - when they are in power. They are brutal when they are in power. We have seen the brute power of the radicals all through the nineties. You will not succeed. The will of the people will eventually prevail", he added.
Meanwhile, Apni Party President Altaf Bukhari took a strong exception to a recent government order directing academic institutions to organize virtual programs for 'Surya Namaskar' on the eve of Makar Sankranti.
In a statement issued to the media, Bukhari said the educational institutions must be kept aloof from political maneuvering and emphasis should be laid on providing quality education to the students.
"Celebrating festivals is an individual choice and the state has no right to interfere in it. However, this recent edict for observing Surya Namaskar in colleges across J&K is undoubtedly a dangerous enterprise that carries serious implications. The administration must stop communalising the academic atmosphere and should rather focus on the upgradation of these educational facilities," he said.
