VIJAYPUR, Jan 21: In order to bring consciousness among the masses and youth in particular, Red Ribbon Club of GDC Vijaypur organized a webinar on HIV/AIDS awareness.
Students from various institutions across the JKUT enthusiastically participated in the webinar. The programme was presided over by Dr. Shittal Sharma, HOD Mathematics, and the welcome address was given by Dr. Kuldeep Singh (Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club).
Prof Poonam Kundan (HOD, Environment Sciences) was the resource person of the webinar and she briefly explained the different aspects of this deadly disease. She said that HIV is a life long condition but treatments and certain strategies can prevent the virus from transmitting and the infection from progressing. She further discussed about the history, causes, mode of transmission, symptoms, factors which affects the life expectancy of people living with HIV, myths regarding HIV and also suggested preventive measures.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College. She apprised the students that AIDS is a deadly disease that is rampant in humans and talking openly about it can help normalize the prevailing situation. Such activities provide opportunities to correct misconceptions and also help others to learn more about HIV. We can all help end HIV stigma through our words and actions in our day-to-day lives and can also lead others with our supportive behaviors, she said. The formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Sunil Kumar Mangoch (HOD, Dogri).
