1/21/2022 10:32:23 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 21: NSS Govt. Gandhi Memorial Science College organized an online awareness workshop Empowering Girls by Education and Nutrition under the patronage of worthy Principal Dr. Ravender Tickoo and guidance of NSS PO Dr. Deepali Mahajan as a part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav on 21st Jan. 2022 celebrating National Girl Child Day. The reason for celebrating this day is to make the girls of the country aware of their rights and importance of girl education, health and nutrition.
The celebrations also marks the anniversary of BBBP Scheme. National Education Policy (NEP)-2020 has introduced "Gender Inclusion Fund for targeting the development of girl child. Girls' education strengthens economies and reduces inequality. Educating girls saves lives and builds stronger families, communities and economies. Empowered, educated girls have healthier, better-educated children and higher wages -helping to break the cycle of poverty. Malnutrition is caused by deficiencies of calories, protein, vitamins, and minerals interacting with infections and other poor health and social conditions, saps the strength and well-being of millions of women and adolescent girls around the world. NSS Volunteers made posters on empowering girls through education and nutrition.
As part of the quest to achieve gender equality, girl's empowerment has increasingly been the focus and can be achieved by improving girl child nutritional status. Education is the key to girl's empowerment, through it they can have better access and opportunities in the workforce, leading to increased income and less isolation at home or exclusion from financial decisions pursuing their goals and dreams. Educate a woman, empower a woman!
