Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 21: Despite repeated promises of the UT administration to bring transparency and end corruption in J&K nothing has changed on ground, as Block Development Office (BDO) Thuroo in district Reasi made payment for labour and material against non-existing work.
The BDO Thuroo has made total payment of Rs 1.61 Lakhs for construction of "lane steps" Laqit Ali House to Main Road w. no. 8, Panchyat Thuroo-A 1. "Between 23rd January 2020 to 15th May 2020 Rs 109656 (as sheets amount) and Rs 50,485 as Bills total Rs 1.61 Lakhs released by BDO Thuroo in favour of Labour engaged and material purchased for non-existing works, in five instalments", said Qamar Din, adding that the work was approved in the plan, but the Block officials, who are master in making fake bills and made fictitious payment swallowed Lakhs of rupees in past as well.
He said that the officials had done paperwork very smartly, the bills are available online. "But on ground you will find nothing. From village level worker (VLW) to BDO, everyone has hands in glove in swindling of public money", he said, adding that UT administration claims to eradicate the menace of corruption and bring the transparency, but unfortunately there is huge gap between government's claims and the ground reality.
"The rural populace are not much of aware of the loot of public exchequer by the corrupt public servants, and thousands of such cases goes unnoticed. In this case we want action as per rules against corruption officials and the misappropriated funds should be recovered by the higher authorities to discourage the blacksheep", he added.
BDO Thuroo, Mohd Shawaz Ahmed when contacted said that he would check it. "I'm not aware of it, I joined here two months back, so I need to check the record", he added.
