| Scandal! Finance companies sanction gold loan without checking credentials of depositors | | |

JAMMU, Jan 23: A scandal has surfaced in Jammu district with a group of thieves availing gold loan from different finance companies by depositing the gold ornaments stolen by them from different places of the district.
A family here alleged that a finance company sanctioned gold loan in favour of a person who had stolen gold ornaments from their house and then deposited the same with the company in lieu of the loan amount. The family alleged that the finance company did not ask for any document that could prove who is the real owner of the gold ornaments.
The family said that the finance company only asked for the Aadhar Card of the person who deposited the gold ornaments and sanctioned the gold loan. The family said the company should have asked for some receipt or bill that would have proven as who is the real owner of the gold ornaments.
It has been learnt from sources that the particular case is just a tip of the iceberg with many such cases existing in the Jammu division. They said the police should look into the matter and take action against the companies that sanction gold loan without checking the authenticity of the real owner. |
