EARLY TIMES REPORT

VIJAYPUR, Jan 23: In order to bring consciousness among the masses and youth in particular about ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, Department of Sociology, GDC Vijaypur organized an Intra-College selfie taking competition in which female students of the college were asked to take a selfie with their parents and the male students were asked to take it with their sisters whereas faculty members were to take their selfie with their daughters and mark them with apt and catchy slogans. Faculty and students of the college enthusiastically participated in the event to show their support, love and affection towards the girl child of their family with the aim to improve the overall sex ratio in India and to generate awareness among common masses.
The event was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Sangeeta Sudan, Principal of the College. She apprised the students that BBBP campaign is an initiative by the Government of India to address the issues concerning the status of girl child. This initiative has started giving positive results at the local as well as national level as evident by increase in sex ratio of females and people now have become more concerned regarding the girl child’s upliftment in society.
She further added that it also ensures that no female foetus is aborted and every girl child gets equal rights, nutrition and education as boys without any kind of discrimination. The event was conducted by Neharika Sharma (HOD Sociology).
The best slogan award was given to Manesha Sangotra, a student of BA Semester 1st and e-certificates were awarded to all the participants of the competition.
