| GDC Bishnah organizes intra-college essay writing competition on global climate change | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 19: Department of Zoology, GDC Bishnah organized an intra-college essay writing competition on the topic "Global Climate Change with special reference to Biodiversity loss, Physiological Stress Response and Environmental Consequences".
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sheetu Raina, Head, Department of Zoology and the main aim of the programme was to make the students aware about the changing trends in climate globally and its impact on the ecosystems and loss of bio-diversity. She stressed upon that global climate changes have drastic and dramatic impact on natural environments, plants and animal species leading to acceleration in biodiversity loss in most of the areas on the earth. The impacts will have knock on effects for many communities and sectors that depend on natural resources including agriculture, fisheries, energy, tourism, water supply etc.
Dr. Raina said that moreover, frequent changes in climate like intense droughts, storms, heat waves and warming oceans can directly harm the whole bio-diversity and wreak havoc on human's livelihoods and other communities of the ecosystem. Principal Dr. Anuradha Pandoh also encouraged the students to participate in such type of activities. Many students of the college participated in the programme. |
