Day-long workshop on JJM implementation organised for PRIs

RAJOURI, May 21: Intending to ensure effective implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission and to raise awareness about the need of water conservation, the District Administration Rajouri today organised a day-long workshop for the PRIs, here in the Conference Hall of the PWD Dak Bunglow.
The event was presided over by the District Development Council Chairman, Chowdhary Naseem Liyaqat in presence of ADDC/CEO DDC, Pawan Kumar; SE Hydraulics, JP Singh and CPO, Mohammad Khurshid were also present during the program.
Among the others, DDC Member Rajouri, Sai Abdul Rashid; DDC Member Thanamandi, Abdul Qayoom Mir; DDC Member Sunderbani, Arun Sharma; DDC Member Kalakote, Anita Thakur; DDC Member Darhal, Iqbal Malik; DDC Member Seri, Sangeeta Sharma; DDC Member Moughla, Shamim Akhter were present during the event.
BDC Rajouri, Darbar Chowdhary; BDC Siot, Bal Krishan; BDC Nowshera, Bodh Raj; BDC Doongi, Raiz Chowdhary; BDC Qila Darhal, Khalid Firdoz; BDC Dhangri, Tazeem Akhter; BDC Plunger, Parveen Akhter and BDC Kalakote, Babu Khan; BDC Seri, Neena Sharma also attended the program.
While briefing the participants about the objectives of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the SE Hydraulics, JP Singh said that Jal Jeevan Mission was a centrally sponsored scheme launched by the Government of India with the objective to provide 100% tap water 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal' to all households.
He said the workshop was aimed at creating awareness among the general public regarding conservation, preservation and judicious use of water.
He also informed that the district has 129252 households, of which 67736 have functional tap water connection, while 61517 are yet to be covered.
Regarding the implementation of JJM, he informed that as many as 293 schemes have been approved for the district at an estimated cost of Rs 1723 crore. He also said that the work on all the schemes would be started shortly.
Giving details of the activities being undertaken to raise awareness among the public about water-related issues, the SE Hydraulics said that a series of IEC activities are being organized in Rajouri under Jal Jeevan Mission.
The IEC activities are being organised by the Implementation Support Agencies (ISA) to spread awareness about different aspects of water conservation. "To further strengthen water conservation and management, a Jal Shakti Kendra has been set up where the people can get their grievances registered", he added.
Addressing the participants, the DDC Chairman said that Jal Jeevan Mission also envisages source sustainability measures as mandatory elements, such as recharge and reuse through grey water management, water conservation and rain water harvesting.
Referring to the role of the women in water conservation and management, he said participation of maximum women was being encouraged in Jal Jeevan Mission as no one understands the worth of water better than them.
Stating that PRIs have to play a vital role for the successful implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, he asked the public representatives to work in tandem with the Jal Shakti Department for the better implementation of the program in the district for the larger public interest.
