15-day campaign for Iron supplementation of Adolescent girls launched

RAJOURI, May 21: To counter the menace of anaemia, and other health issues among adolescent girls, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal, along with Chief Medical Officer Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar on Saturday launched a 15 Day long iron folic acid supplementation program here at Government Model Girls Higher Secondary School Rajouri.
Chief Education Officer, Shailash Kumari; District ASHA Coordinator, Dr Farooq Mir, BMO, Manjakote, Dr Saleem Bhatti, Dental Surgeon, Dr Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Principal GMGHS ,Rouf Dar and teaching staff of the school was present.
The 15 Day campaign was launched by administering an Iron tablet to the girl student, and the Programme was launched as a part of Anaemia Mukt Bharat.
Pertinently, the Anemia Mukt Bharat- intensified Iron-plus Initiative aims to strengthen the existing mechanisms and foster newer strategies for tackling anaemia. Iron deficiency is responsible for affecting physical growth, sexual development, menstruation, pregnancy, memory, attentiveness and immunity among the girls.
The campaign will run for fifteen days in the district and during these days, iron folic acid tablets, deworming tablets, sanitary kits would be distributed among the adolescent girls. The oral health check of girls will also be conducted by the Dental doctors.
The Chief Medical Officer Rajouri also shared important information about Anaemia.
While addressing the event, the Deputy Commissioner said that the campaign aims to strengthen the existing mechanisms and foster newer strategies for tackling anaemia.
Listing various measures being taken by the Govt to eradicate anaemia, he underlined the need for active cooperation of all the stakeholders to make Rajouri an anaemia free district.
He also asked the concerned officers to generate mass awareness among the public about the causes of anaemia and make dedicated efforts to yield fruitful results of the campaign on ground. He advised the students to act as messengers for dissemination of information about the health issues and to make the public aware of the Health schemes.
The DC also said that special teams of the RBSK would visit all the Health Blocks of the district to conduct the health check up of the adolescent girls and collect the data about the percentage of anemic students.
