Department of Cooperatives hosts workshop to discuss amalgamation of existing Acts

JAMMU, May 24: Department of Cooperatives today hosted a workshop with the aim to discuss, deliberate and seek suggestions for the amalgamation of J&K Cooperative Societies Act 1989 and J&K self reliant Act 1999. Held under the leadership of Secretary to Cooperatives, J&K, Yasha Mudgal and the supervision of the Registrar, Cooperative Societies, J&K, Shafqat Iqbal, the main focus of the workshop was to involve all major stakeholders of the cooperative department in drafting a more comprehensive, public friendly Act without any ambiguities. The major discussions held were on requisite membership of cooperatives, mode of disposal of Arbitration cases, area of operation, share capital involved, the need of forming one comprehensive Act. The workshop kicked off with the welcome address of Registrar cooperatives, J&K wherein he highlighted the recent initiatives taken by the department for the cooperative societies, Super bazaars, cooperative schools, FPOs under the guidance of Secretary to cooperatives, J&K.
Most of the stakeholders, Secretaries, Chairpersons & members of the cooperative societies participated in the workshop.
A detailed analysis of both the Acts was given by Retd IAS, Parvez Malik who also lauded this initiative by the department. Besides him, many stakeholders including GD Bakshi, Cooperative Union Ltd Jammu, Jagdish Chandra, Chenani, MPCS Ltd, Rohit Grover, farm fresh cooperative Ltd, Basant Singh Saini, CMS Bishnah, Balkar Singh, Jammu Rural Cooperative Housing Building Society shared their valuable suggestions.
The workshop concluded with the vote of thanks by Additional RCS Jammu Dr. Narupa Rai who stressed on the vision of LG, UT, J&K, that "the road to J&K's prosperity has to pass through villages".
