JUVC Declares open All India Inter-University Pencak silat (Men & Women) Championship

Jammu, May 24: Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu declares open the All India Inter-University Pencak silat (Men& Women) Championship organized by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu at the University Gymnasium Hall. The participants in the Gymnasium Hall rejoiced the moment when the Vice-Chancellor urged captains from various teams to lit the traditional Lamp. In his address, Prof Rai said that under National Education Policy (NEP) 20, a sport is an integral part of the curriculum which earlier was an extracurricular activity. Vice-Chancellor said that it is a matter of honour that the Association of Indian Universities entrusted the responsibility to University of Jammu, for hosting the All India Inter-University Pencak Silat (Men & Women) Championship in which around 450 players from 44 Universities across the Nation in men and women section are going to participate in this mega event. While addressing the gathering, Prof. Umesh Rai congratulated the organizers for organizing such type of sports events, which will provide an opportunity to the students of the various Universities to come closer to each other besides showing their Sports talent. He also appreciated the mass participation of the players and officials accompanying their teams from the various Universities. Prof Rai also unveiled the mascot of the Pencak silat Championship on the occasion. Earlier, Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu presented the formal welcome address and the detailed report of the said Championship. Dr. Baba also emphasised that Sports and games impart a sense of discipline, fellow-feeling and togetherness. Sports and games are the right avenues to channelize the energy and vitality of students in a positive direction. He also promised that University of Jammu will be the front runner in nourishing the talent of the sportsperson who will ultimately make the Jammu as well the nation proud. An impressive demonstration of the various skills of the Pencak silat was performed by the players which were appreciated by one and all present on occasion.
Among other dignitaries and University officials Prof Prakash Antahal, Dean Students Welfare, Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Mr. Irfan Aziz Botta, Gourav Arora, Dr. Komal Nagar, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Vimal Kishore, Padam Dev Singh, Jai Bharat, Vikas Karlopia, Ravish Vaid, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Gagan Kumar, S. Harinderpal Singh, Tarvinder Pal Singh, Bhavna Sharma, Sanjeev Sharma and representatives of the participating teams were also present on the occasion.
