SUNDERBANI, May 27: Jawahar Lal Nehru played a major role în the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India, stated JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma
Addressing a gathering at Sunderbani to remember the first prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, Shri Sharma recalled how Pt Nehru worked day and night to defeat the designs of Jinnah to take Jammu and Kashmir, which the later had described a? a blank cheque în his pocket.
Nehru under the overall guidance of Mahatma Gandhi succeeded în persuading Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah to oppose and reject two nation theory of Jinnah în Jammu and Kashmir, despite a Muslim majority state bordering Pakistan ruled by a Hindu ruler. It was a major slap to Jinnah and his designs when Kashmir opted secular India and rejected Pakistan and finally J&K succeeded to India.
He said Nehru is the architect of modern India and laid sound foundations of India a strong nation. His contribution is immense and generations to come will never forget despite attempts to distort history by BJP and Modi govt.
Paying rich tributes to Nehru, senior leaders of Congress recalled his contributions în the freedom struggle and post independence and termed him great stalwart of our country.
Prominent among them include Block Congress Presidents NC Sharma, retd DFO, Tirth Ram, Ajeet Singh, Yog Raj Sharma, Chuni Lal, om Parkash, Raj kumar Raina, Krishan Lal, Hem Raj, sahil Khajuria, Sidharth (NSUI), Mahesha, Prem Nath lok Nath, Raghbir Singh, jagdish Raj, Mohan Singh, Sdr Mohinder Singh and others.
