Bloeria releases “Old age is a boon and not a curse”

Jammu, May 27: Dr. S.S. Bloeria IAS (Retd) former Chief Secretary today released a Book ‘Old Age Is A Boon And Not A Curse’ at an impressive function largely attended by eminent writers, literary figures, former civil servants and social activists. The book is published by the Home for Aged & Infirm, compiled by its President and well-known educationist, I.D Soni. It contains contributions from 39 eminent writers including two Padma Shri recipients, Dr. Jitender Udhampuri and Prof Shiv Dutt Nirmohi. It has thought provoking write-ups in four languages- English, Hindi, Dogri & Urdu on old age.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bloeria lauded the efforts of the Home for Aged & Infirm and I. D Soni in particular for bringing out this valuable book containing illuminating articles on Old Age and related issues. He suggested the aged persons to stop living in the past( glory) and distanced themselves from those who rant on their past. He also advised them to avoid three things in their lives; expectations, acquisitions and competition with others. If followed, they would lead a better and much tension-free live.
Dr Ashok Bhan, former DGP and one the contributors in the Book released, suggested the elders to prepare for the phase ahead mentally and try to remain busy socially, avoiding use of Covid endemic to avoid visits to friends, function and social events. Using colloquial language to bring home his suggestions, he said that they should kill loneliness, idleness and unnecessary possessiveness of old stocks.
K.B. Jandial who presented the review of the book referring to the core of the ideas of various contributors, said that Soni’s article was a comprehensive guide for the aged and in a way a bible for the old aged persons. He called the Book as a priceless treasure of valuable and matured views on the Aged of the eminent contributors who have experienced vagaries of life. He quoted Soni’s article who said that “we die because we don’t know how to live; and kill ourselves by our own habits.”
The President, Sh. I.D. Soni, welcomed the dignitaries and writers of the articles in an appreciable way and also gave a brief of the functioning of the Home and its activities. He said that currently the Home is giving a monthly pension of Rs. 1000 to 180 widows. Ke said that the Home is endeavouring to establish a separate Pensioners’ Home with the assistance of the Govt.
Prof. Shiv Dutt Nirmohi and Dr. Jatinder Udhampur also spoke on the occasion.
Sh. Prem Gupta, IPS, Patron of Home and most of the contributors were present who were honoured on the occasion.
Sh. J.K. Vaid, Former Director, Geological Survey of India, conducted the proceeding in an intelligent, elegant and thought provoking manner and Er. Vijay Bhagotra, Honorary Secretary of Home, presented the vote of thanks.
