JAMMU, May 27: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Rahul Yadav, accompanied by Municipal Veterinary Officer (MVO) Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma today visited Municipal Animal Care Centre, Roop Nagar, Jammu and took stock of various activities being carried out in the centre.
The MVO, JMC apprised the Commissioner that beside providing treatment to the sick & injured stray animals, animal birth control/anti rabies vaccination (dogs) programme is also being conducted in the centre. For timely rescuing of stray animals within JMC limits and sometimes outside JMC limits, dedicated rescue teams with Animal catcher vehicles have been constituted to redress the general public complaints by 24 x 7.

Since the implementation of ABC programme within JMC limits, 25,000 stray dogs have been sterilized & vaccinated by the JMC and within next one year more than 70 percent of the existing stray dog population will be sterilized/ vaccinated. The Commissioner JMC interacted with the staff & directed them to work with more dedication & zeal to relieve the suffering of speechless creations by providing best possible treatment in the centre & also appealed to the general public and local NGOs/Animal Activists/ Volunteers for their cooperation in the successful implementation of ABC/ARV programme within JMC limits.
