Govt miserably failed to protect rights of OBC community: Rattan Lal Gupta
5/28/2022 10:50:01 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 28: The present regime of Jammu and Kashmir has miserably failed to implement schemes meant for socio-economic upliftment of weaker sections of the society as no serious effort is being made to empower them in terms of employment and provision of incentives to set up income generating units.
This was stated by Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President, Jammu, National Conference, while addressing Provincial Working Committee meeting of NC OBC Cell here at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu. Today's meeting was organized by Abdul Gani Teli, Provincial President, OBC Cell National Conference, Jammu in which several issued being confronted by the OBC people were highlighted. The demands related to OBC people were raised in the meeting include implementation of 27 per cent reservation in Jammu and Kashmir as per Mandal Commission report; political reservation and OBC Certificate should be renewed/issued for lifelong.
Addressing the party workers, the Provincial President said that the incumbent government has despondently unsuccessful in protecting the rights of OBC community in Jammu and Kashmir. It's unfortunate that these people are still deprived of what they deserve in the form of reservation which is being enjoyed all over the country, he said, adding that when other Central laws are being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir then why the central government is shying to implement Central OBC quota in reservation at par with rest of the States.
The Senior NC leader asserted that the impetus generated during the successive National Conference governments in the erstwhile state is totally missing. In such a scenario, it is incumbent upon the administration to take necessary steps for fulfilling the aspirations of the OBC people and undertaking development on a massive scale. He lamented over the governance deficit of the past few years, saying the lust for power by divisive forces is mainly responsible for such a deplorable scenario.
Rattan Lal Gupta asserted that the National Conference has always remained committed to protect the rights of OBC community in the past and shall continue to do the same in future too. The 2% reservation to OBC was given by the NC govt and further 2% was more reservation was sanctioned by the Omar Abdullah govt but not implemented by the successive govt BJP and PDP.
Gupta further said that govt should issue one time OBC Certificate on the analogy of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe categories. He also demanded political reservation to the OBC on the analogy of SC/ST.
Speaking in the meeting, Abdul Ghani Teli expressed great disappointment over the administrative apathy in effective implementation of various schemes for upliftment of weaker sections of the society specially OBC. He also emphasized the need for enhancing the reservation quota for these sections bringing this at par with per several other states of the country.
Brij Mohan Sharma Vice President emphasized that National Conference is the only party which can satiate the urges and aspirations of all segments of the society, irrespective of region, religion, caste or creed.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary National Conference termed the issues raised by Abdul Ghani Teli were genuine, asking government to consider the genuine demands of this deprived community. Exhorting the people to strengthen National Conference at the grass roots level, he urged the workers to fan out in their areas and help the masses in getting their grievances redressed.
Th Yashu Vardhan Singh, Additional Spokesperson NC, Jammu, said that government's hollow slogans and promises made to OBC community have not been fulfilled as the government continues to remain busy in unproductive other issues. He asked the party cadre to work relentlessly as party's foot soldiers in their respective areas and strengthen NC at all levels.
Among those who were present in the meeting include : Vijay Lochan P.P SC Cell, Pardeep.
