Jammu innovator Vivek Sagar granted patent in field of dome shaped structures
6/12/2022 10:45:18 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 12: Vivek Sagar Sharma son of Late Kamla Sharma and Late Prem Sagar Sharma, a renowned innovator and researcher of Jammu, has been granted patent for his invention of: A Method and System for Construction of Light-Weight Dome Shaped Structures by Radial Formwork.
A Patent Certificate for Patent no: 388545, for his application no: 2620/DEL/2014, filed on 12-9-2014 has been issued on June 3, 2022 by the Intellectual Property India, a subordinate office of Government of India to administer all Patents/Designs/Trade Marks/ Geographical Indications in India.
As per the provisions of the Patent Act, 1970, the Patent has been granted for a period of 20 years and Vivek now owns clear and uncontested intellectual rights over the construction of domes and shells constructed through the most novel and original method, he has devised though his vision and unrelenting hard work over the last 10 years.
This patent is important in the sense that no new patent has been granted for the process of construction of dome- shells for the last 40 years in the whole world. The last invention in the field of construction of Domes was done by three brothers: David, Barry and Randy South, of Texas, USA in 1980s. They are currently the most successful Dome-Constructors in the World.
This new method developed by Vivek, who is an architect by qualification, redefines dome making with all new innovative elements of formwork and construction. He claims it to be the most economical and fastest method of construction of dome- shells. He claimed that dome-shells made by this method are the most organic and eco-sensitive built forms. This method envisions construction of a dome-shell, using three basic processes or elements: placing a Spur Hub in the centre, putting a lot of spurs over it and layering, achieved through multiple layers of different materials and compositions. Spur Hub and Spurs are removed later, leaving an organic, fabric-formed Dome-Shell, having such qualities, shapes and surface-textures, never experienced by people earlier.
Applied on September 12, 2014 this patent has been granted after eight years of filing of this application. This only tells us how difficult and important granting of such inventions shall be. Vivek has toiled hard to create prototypes for validation of his idea, and he says: "We have been more than successful in creating the best of domes and shells for all kinds of practical use. The scope and applicability of such dome-shells are immense, and it's just a matter of time when the whole world will itself come forward and demand them."
He further states: "The best thing about this invention is that it's mere application of common-sense. This technology is simple, organic and complying with all kinds of natural phenomena. It has the potential to become the most sought-after construction-skill in the world, with possible applications in creating Space-age Habitations too."
It is a historical and engineering fact that domes are the safest kind of buildings. Domes will survive all kinds of earthquakes, storms and natural disasters. He has added several features to the primary dome, over the time, and now they are like the most beautiful and among the most useful architectural compositions to be seen.
