Poonch Panthers defeated Sher-e-Samba in finals of White Knight Cricket Premier League

JAMMU, June 14: In a match befitting a final, the Poonch Panthers defeated Sher-e-Samba. The Panthers won the toss and decided to bat. However, they crumbled right at the start and at one point of time were 24/ 3 after 5 overs. However, their middle order persevered against a hardy bowling attack of Samba and put up a brave performance. At the end, Panthers managed 153/ 8 after 20 overs.
In reply, the Samba opening partnership crumbled right at the start and lost their first wicket in the very first over. The sequence of short lived partnerships, as had been their story throughout the competition, continued and the Sher-e-Samba could only manage 146/ 5 after 20 overs against the resilient bowlers of Poonch Panthers. Kumel from Poonch Panthers was awarded the Man of the Match for scoring 44 runs and taking 2 wickets.
In addition, Umar Bhat of Doda Daredevils was awarded Best Batsmen of the tournament. Kumel of Poonch Panthers was again was awarded the Best Bowler of the tournament. Saurabh Manhas of Sher-e-Samba was awarded with the Best Player of the tournament and received a new TVS motorbike.
Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, AVSM, GOC-in-C Northern Command, was the Chief Guest who appreciated the players for their passion and enthusiasm on the field and sportsman spirit outside it. He also commended the efforts of the civ population for encouraging the event and making it a success.
Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, YSM, VSM, GOC White Knight Corps in the media brief stated that army aims to provide more of such engaging platforms to the youth of J&K in order to channelise their energy towards sporting activities and give them more and more opportunities for their betterment.
Davinder Singh Rana, ex MLA, during the media interaction also applauded the efforts of Indian Army in organising the event at such a gigantic scale for the betterment of the youth of Jammu region
