Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 27: The General Body of J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra, Jammu (SKK) today re-elected K B Jandial as its President for the third term along with its outgoing team. JK Vaid was re-elected as its General Secretary. The tri-annual election of J&K's one of the most renowned NGOs of J&K, Samaj Kalyan Kendra was held here today. Yash Raj, who was appointed as the Election Commissioner, conducted the election. The Election Commissioner has fixed 3 pm of June 23, 2022 as the last date for submission of nomination papers but no nomination was filed. Consequently, he sought the sense of the General Body which unanimously proposed re-election of the outgoing team and accordingly he declared the outgoing team elected unopposed for the next three years. Er. Vijay Bhagotra was re-elected as Sr. Vice President, ML Sharma as Vice President, H N Raina as Secretary and MD Sharma as Treasurer in today's election. The SKK runs a Higher Secondary school for deaf & dumb students where education and other facilities are provided free of cost. Earlier, the President dissolved the previous Executive Committee. Briefly submitting the report on the activities of the NGO of the last three years, Jandial expressed happiness over the educational excellence of the divyang displayed in all examinations conducted by the Board of School Education in the last three years. This year, in the middle class examination, all the students got distinction. He also referred to the dwindling financial health of the NGO this year as a result of withholding of annual Grant-in-Aid from the Social Welfare Department for the year 2021-22 due to newly introduced cumbersome system of verification of NGOs resulting in SKK's accounts going deficit by Rs 3.50 lakhs in the first quarter of this year. He said that the option available was to seek public donations or collect contributions from its members. The new EC would take a call. He also referred to the inordinate delay in allotting the alternate plot for construction of its building for the school by the JDA. The payment was made by the NGO about 27 years ago. However, there is a hope that the matter would likely be resolved in the next meeting of the board of directors of JDA as & when held. The SKK family has on the General Body two former DGPs Kuldeep Khoda & Dr Ashok Bhan, former DG of DRDO & Additional Secretary MoD, several retired IAS, IPS, GSI, Forest Service, IA&AD & several members from the trade, business and civil society.
