KVK, Reasi organises Awareness-cum-Training Programme on Kharif Pulses at Aghar Jitto Village

Reasi, June 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized awareness-cum-training programme on scientific cultivation of Kharif pulses here today at Aghar Jitto village of Katra block in Reasi district which was attended by a number of farmers of the area. Scientist &Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and apprised them about the importance of pulse crops, their nutritional and food security benefits. He said that Reasi district has huge potential in pulses and there is need to increase the production and productivity of pulses in the area by adopting the latest innovations in pulses production. He elaborated the scientific cultivation practices of Kharif pulses and guided the farmers on improved variety of seed, Integrated Nutrient Management and Integrated Weed Management practices in the Kharif pulses. He added that in order to increase the income of the farmers’ pulses can play a significant role. He also informed the farmers that pulses help to increase the fertility of the soil as pulses plant acts like Urea manufacturing machines. He discussed in length on plant protection measures in pulses and said the farmers that they should take timely remedial measures to manage the pulses diseases. He narrated that pulses production will not only increase the income of the farmers but also enhances the nutritional level of the people by their consumption as they are rich in proteins.He also discussed on the benefits of natural farming and guided farmers on organic cultivation of pulses. He discussed on the soil health and soil health cards for the improvement of the productivity of the pulse crops. Farmers took keen interest during the programme and ask many quarries regarding the pulses production which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK officials.
KVK, Reasi also laid Cluster Front Line Demonstrations (CFLDs) on black gram(var.PU-31) in the area. Sarpanch of the area, Smt.Prem Lata and Ex-Sarpach of the area,Sh.Krishen Singh thanked KVK,Reasi and appreciated the efforts of KVK,Reasi on promotion of pulses production in the area. The programme was assisted by Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks
