Art of Living conducts Prison Rehab Program in District Jail

Jammu, June 28, 2022..To celebrate 75th year of India’s independence “Azadi ka Amril Mahotsav and 150th Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, Prison Rehabilitation Program has been started as a project with the Ministry of Culture,Govt. of India in 15 states in collaboration with Art of Living Foundation Bangalore . Under which First Such workshop has been conducted in the District. Jail Udhampur from June 21 to 28, 2022 In which 75 Jail inmates and 10 jail staff attended the 8 days workshop. Er. Shakti Sagar Chief Engineer (Retd.) And Senior AoL faculty member conducted the workshop in which Yoga Asanas, Pranayams, Sudershan Kriya and Meditations were taught to the participants and tips to improve self-strength, balance, flexibility, disciplinary practices, meditation and selfless action to stay away from negative thoughts were given. All participants felt relaxed with peace of mind, improvement in sleep quality and freedom from negative emotions after this workshop.
On the concluding day, the participants shared their experiences. Many participants informed about the change of their state of mind, improved quality of sleep, relaxed and calmness in their minds and improvement in their physical health. The participants thanked the Art of Living and Jail Superintendent for organizing the beautiful workshop. Superintendent Jail Sh. Harish Kotwal and Sh. Shakti Sagar highlighted the remarkable life of Sh. Aurbindo as freedom Fighter and his spiritual journey during their address to Jail inmates. It was also suggested to the inmates that if they perform Pranayamas and Sudhershan Kriya on daily basis, probably they would notice the benefits of these activities and feel relaxed and better from their physical and more important mental health point of view A cultural program was presented by Jail inmates during the concluding function as entertainment therapy. Superintendent Jail thanked Art of living for conducting the workshop and informed that more workshops shall be organized in near future for the well being of inmates.
Art of Living the Prison Program transforms the lives of people working in or incarcerated within the criminal justice system. This program teaches skills that reduce stress, heal trauma and provides practical knowledge of how to handle negative emotions in order to live to one's highest potential and contribute to society in a positive way and the Impact of this workshop is that it has been active in over 65 countries and continues to grow. In India, over 100 prisons have implemented the program. More than 800,000+ prison inmates & staff have been transformed through these programs, said Ajay kapoor State coordinator – Art of living Bureau of communications and projects.
