| J&K Govt’s indifference towards flood-hit populace perturbing: Rattan Lal Gupta | | Asks Centre to assess losses, provide adequate compensation | |

JAMMU, July 30: Rattan Lal Gupta NC’s Provincial President Jammu on Saturday criticized the J&K Government for not doing enough for the rain-hit people of Jammu region as recently heavy Monsoon showers have wreaked havoc in the entire province damaging crops, houses and roads while water level in rivers crossing the danger marks at various places.
In a statement issued to media persons, the senior NC leader has appealed to the LG’s administration for immediately assessing the losses of the people and releasing adequate compensation as inundation and flash floods have ruined the lives of people across the region with low lying areas facing the fury of inclement weather conditions. He also expressed concern over LG’s administration sitting over the matter as the government was missing on ground when the people were facing hardships due to heavy downpours in many areas. He said that the claim of government to create sun-rain-gale proof edifice in the Jammu region has also fallen flat with first heavy rainfall of the season devastating the entire civic infrastructure with bridges, road stretches and drains caving in against the rain water. he said that the money spent on civic infra projects seems to have been drained down as no new project sustained the first heavy shower of the monsoon season. He said it is a matter of concern that the LG’s administration was watching the devastation caused by rain god as mute spectator while the people were confronting the worst ever nightmare of their lives with flood waters damaging their property, crops and whatever coming in the way. He said that the administration has been exposed badly for not doing enough ahead of Monsoon because the hapless population starting from Kathua to Rajouri and Poonch faced colossal losses with no help coming from the government side. Claiming that till date no compensation has been announced, he said that centre should intervene and provide appropriate compensation after conducting assessment of damages. |
