Harsh Dev leads protest against PWD, PMGSY, NHAI outside DC Office Udhampur
Dilapidated condition of roads claiming precious lives
8/6/2022 11:23:52 PM
Early Times Report

Udhampur, Aug 6: Peeved over the dilapidated and extremely pathetic condition of roads in District Udhampur resulting in frequent accidents and loss of precious lives, hundreds of youth, women and civil society members led by Harsh Dev Singh, Former Minister and senior AAP leader held a massive protest outside DC Office Udhampur.
The protestors blocked the road in-front of the DC Office resulting in suspension of vehicular traffic for over 3 hours. They raised slogans against construction agencies including PWD, PMGSY and NHAI for sub-standard and slip-shod works executed in respect of several roads. They later submitted a memorandum to DC Udhampur seeking ACB probe into the irregularities and frauds in the construction of several poor quality roads. The people further sought immediate compensation for the victims of the accident which took place early morning today on Barmeen–Ghordi road and strict penal action against the delinquent executing agencies.
Speaking on the occasion, Harsh Dev Singh blamed the construction mafia for poor quality works executed in collusion with the corrupt functionaries of the govt. He regretted that he had made repeated requests and representations before the highest authorities of PWD, PMGSY and NHAI regarding shabby condition of several specially identified roads and sub-standard working by the construction agencies but regretfully the same were not headed to for reasons best known.
He said that he had further cautioned the District officers only two days back of possible mishaps that could occur in view of the extremely pathetic condition of certain roads but the latter had failed to respond that had once again resulted in the today’s ghastly tragedy.
Pointing towards the shabby plight of various roads of Chenani constituency, Singh said that Barmeen–Ghordi road was lingering for the last 8 years with huge pot-holes and pits and none to question the delinquent executing agency who was working in fits and starts and whose shoddy working on the road had caused several accidents in the past and claimed several precious lives.
He further named several other roads of PMGSY which were accident prone including Gujad–Chirdi road; Kud–Mada road; T/morh to Ther road; Charat–Pakhlai road; Satyalta–Pakhlai road; Barkunda–Kharwa road; Narsu–Thani Dhar road; Bandhole–Parla Chappar road; Mantalai–Gamastu road; Marothi–Ganshal road majority of which had been abandoned half done.
He lamented the non-clearance of slips at Gandh-Top resulting in road blockade at Gandh-Top for the last more than two months. He further condemned the NHAI for non-completion of 25 km stretch of Udhampur–Chenani road lingering for the last seven years and frequent Jams and accidents on the said NH due to criminal apathy of the executing agencies.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Ashwani Khajuria, Rampaul Bhagat, Manju Singh, Ashri Devi, Preeti Khajuria, Raj Kapoor, Karnail Singh, Raj Kumar, Pinky Sharma besides others.
