DC Doda flags-off Shanti Yatra

Jammu, Sept 22: DODA, SEPTEMBER 22: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Doda, Vishesh Paul Mahajan today flagged-off the Shanti March here from GHSS Boys Doda and handed over “Shanti Chinh” to GHSS Girls Doda. A large number of students and staff participated in the peace rally which arrived in the district after covering several districts of Jammu Division. The rally, spearheaded by Directorate of School Education Jammu, had started from Teacher Bhawan, Jammu on 7th September to mark the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi being celebrated as Gandhi Mahotsav across the UT. The Shanti March is organised to spread the message of Mahatma Gandhi to all, more specifically with regard to the Gandhian philosophy of truth and non-violence.
The Shanti March had started from Teacher Bahavan Jammu where R R Bhatnagar Advisor flagged off the Yatra and reached Doda today. Shanti Chinh was received from District Ramban and shall now be handed over to District Kishtwar after passing through schools of District Doda.
Earlier, the Chief Education Officer Doda handed over the Shanti Chinh to the Deputy Commissioner in presence of SSP Doda.
On the occasion, the DC said that the Shanti Yatra is aimed to popularize the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi with regard to peace and universal brotherhood among the students, which is the need of the hour.
Highlighting the importance of such events, the DC said that District administrations Doda is also launching an innovative initiative under the tagline Swachh Gaon Sundar Gaon under which a competition of swatchta will be held among the panchayats aiming to make public aware about proper disposal of waste t minimize harm to the. “ The Panchayats who will participate in the initiative actively shall be felicitated on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti,'' he informed.SSP Doda said that this historic step will also generate awareness about the glorious history of India among the school children and the local people. He also commended the Education department for organising Shanti Yatra.
Meanwhile, the Chief Education Officer briefed about the event and said that this programme is being organised across the educational institutions to familiarize the students as well as the masses about the teachings of the Father of the Nation. He said the education department is conducting an array of activities under the said programme
