Jammu Bar Association celebrates Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh

Jammu, Sept 22: J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu organized a grand function to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji in the Lawyers Chambers Building in which large number of lawyers took part. A seminar was also held in the conference hall of the lawyers chambers to throw light on the life and works of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji. Sh. M.K Bhardwaj Sr. Advocate and President J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu, H.C Jalmaria, Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, Ranjit Singh Jamwal expressed their views whereas Surjeet Singh Andotra General Secretary JKHCBAJ conducted the proceedings. The J&K High Court Bar Association, Jammu first time declared the Holiday on its own to celebrate the Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Birthday on 23rd Sept 2017, when Mr. B.S. Slathia was Bar President.
Speaking on the occasion Sh. Bhardwaj appreciated the decision of the government, though taken after lapse of seven decades, to declare 23 September, the day of birth of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji as holiday. This is recognition of the thoughts and contributions of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji who integrated Jammu and Kashmir with rest of India by signing the instrument of accession and was a progressive and secular ruler to the core. He had declared Justice as his religion. He established the J&K High Court in the year 1928 and made the law of State subject in year 1927 for protection of the rights of permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir in services and holding of land. Sh. Bhardwaj also highlighted the Justice oriented approach of the Maharaja during his dispensation. He called upon the intelligentsia to do more research work on the life and contributions of Maharaja. Jalmeria in his address said that Maharaja Hari Singh, besides having received modern military training, had received modern education also. He was not like the other feudal Rajas. Besides taking steps to remove illiteracy, untouchability, Girl child killings, Maharaja Hari Singh made state subject law and promulgated Jammu and Kashmir Constitution in 1939 for better governance of Jammu and Kashmir State. He took stand in round table conference in London in favour of independence of India. It was Maharaja Hari Singh’s contribution, who signed the instrument of accession with India on October 26, 1947, that Jammu and Kashmir is integral part of India. Rameshwar Singh Jamwal, Ranjit Singh and Surjeet Singh Andotra also spoke on other aspects of the life and contributions of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji.
