Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 23: In a one-sided contest, Media Xi Cricket Club (Media XI) defeated Indian Cricket Club (ICC) by 7 wickets here at Forest Ground Sidhra, Jammu. Media XI skipper Yash Khajuria (4-0-21-4) was adjudged man of the match for his spectacular bowling performance.
Batting first, Indian Cricket Club were bundled out on a paltry 114 runs in the stipulated 20 overs.
Shubam with 29 runs was the top scorer from Indian Cricket Club, while Mohit, Akhil and Rahul contributed 19, 15 and 13 runs respectively.
Yash Khajuria claimed four wickets, while Arun and Nitin Thakur clinched two and one wicket, respectively.
In reply, Media Xi Cricket Club chased down the target in the 12th over with the loss of three wickets. Openers from the Media Xi Cricket Club gave a steady start with Pardeep Singh Bali and Ashu Mehra registered 22 runs on the board, before Ashu Mehra was caught by Sidharth at point. Pardeep Singh Bali also lost his wicket when he poked an outside off stump to fall caught in the slips.
In hurry, Dineshwar apparently gifted his wicket to Ubid Ayaan while trying to hit a straight ball. However, Sunil Bali (50*) and Dev Thakur (25*) knitted an unbeaten 80 runs partnership to hand a seven wicket victory to Media Xi Cricket Club with 7.4 overs to spare.
Later, in the post match presentation both the teams pledged to not only promote sports in Jammu district, but across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. They asserted that involvement of youth in sports is becoming ever important, keeping in view an increase in drug addiction cases. They said that the Media along with other institutions have to take the lead in keeping a tap on such activities which are detrimental for the peace and growth of the nation.
