Azad’s party adds new dimension
9/26/2022 11:15:29 PM
Finally former J&K Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, has announced the name of his party as Democratic Azad Party. He had formally announced his arrival on the political scene of Jammu and Kashmir last month after tendering his resignation from the Congress Party.
He severed his 50-year old bond with the “Grand Old Party” of the country after he was sidelined by the party due to him demanding reforms in the party.
Azad snapping his ties with the Congress triggered a spree of resignations in the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee as many leaders broke their affiliation with the party to express solidarity with Azad.
The veteran politician took his time to announce the name of his party but finally he has made it public. Since the day Azad has declared that he will be an active player in J&K politics, many people have predicted that he will play a vital role in shaping up the politics in Jammu and Kashmir in coming days.
After the abrogation of Article 370, the political scenario in the Himalayan region has changed completely and Azad’s appearance would give stiff competition to the regional as well as the national parties. Minus Azad, the chances of the Congress Party to make a comeback in Jammu and Kashmir look bleak. It’s not only Azad, who has left the party, many big names have said goodbye to the Congress in J&K during the past few years.
Azad while announcing the name of his party stated that he has no permanent friends and foes, and he will work for the betterment of J&K people. When he addressed a rally in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district he made it clear that he cannot get back the Article 370, nor intends to make false promises.
Azad’s agenda is clear and it appears that in the coming days more people could join his Azad Democratic Party. The regional parties will have to work very hard as they are all set to face a tough competition in the forthcoming assembly elections and forming the government is not going to be a cakewalk for any political party. Azad’s appearance on J&K’s political scene has tilted the balance and there is every possibility about his party springing a surprise.
