KVK organises awareness-cum-training programme on natural farming

REASI, Nov 11: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised one day "Awareness-cum-training programme on natural farming " here today at Kans Brahmna village of Pouni block in Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. The programme was organised to sensitize the farmers about natural farming and educate them to apply natural/organic inputs in their crops so that they can produce the quality food. Sr.Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the participants and elaborated the concept of natural farming. He said that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and the farmers can generate more income and employment by producing the safe and healthy food through natural farming. He discussed in detail on the transition strategy to natural farming and stressed on the community based approach required for natural farming. He added that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He spoke in detail on the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. He emphasized on the integration of livestock for natural farming. He expressed that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. He guided the farmers on the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit and also elaborated the practices of mulching, Acchadana and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming. He further said that for a healthy society, quality food is required and natural farming can play a pivotal role for the production of safe and quality food. An interactive session was also conducted during which participants asked various quarries regarding the natural farming which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK officials. During the programme awardee progressive farmers of the area Ram Lal and Bansi Lal were also present who shared their experiences with the other farmers. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and by Dr.Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
