KVK organizes training programme on Profitable Dairy Farming

REASI, Dec 2: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) today began three-day training programme on profitable dairy farming and livestock management here today at KVK, Reasi campus which was attended by a number of farmers, women farmers and rural youths of the area. The major objective of the programme was to train the participants on scientific dairy farming in order to make it a profitable enterprise. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof.JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-Jammu. The three-day event started with the inaugural session and welcome address by Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi. He welcomed the participants for attending the training programme and encouraged them to adopt scientific dairy farming for more farm returns. He also encouraged women farmers to start milk processing units among the Self-help Groups (SHGs) as there is great scope of processed milk products at Katra and other religious places in Reasi District. He stressed on the agri-entrepreneurship development at village level by working in groups and discussed on Atama Nirbhar Bharat. He narrated that the scientific dairy farming can transform the rural areas by raising the socio-economic conditions of the rural women. During the technical session Dr. Mandeep Singh Azad, Scientist, Animal Sciences elaborated the benefits of dairy farming especially in times of crop failure. He spoke in detail on feeding, breeding and management of livestock. He also discussed on various income generation opportunities for rural women through value addition in milk. He added that dairy farming has an immense scope in hilly areas and can play a significant role in empowering the rural women and eradication of poverty from the downtrodden hilly areas. He also guided the participants on packaging, branding and marketing of milk and milk by products. He discussed on the management of various diseases in the livestock. Sunil Sharma, resource person from the Animal Husbandry Department, Reasi discussed in detail on various government schemes and initiatives on dairy farming undergoing in the distt. An exhibition of technologies and video show were also arranged during the programme. During the programme various quarries were raised by the farmers which were answered satisfactorily by the experts. The participants thanked KVK, Reasi scientists for organizing such an innovative programme. During the programme progressive farmers, Panches and Sarpanch of the area were also present. The programme was also attended by Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, Dr. Arvinder Singh, Preeti Choudhary, Liaqat Khan and Sardar Khan. The progamme was assisted by Manohar Lal, Sanjay Kumar, Mohd. Iqbal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks.
