HIRANAGAR, Dec 4: Department of Music Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Govt. Degree College Hiranagar organised 26thonline lecture series of Manthan. Manthan is an online lecture series on the subject of music spanning from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The lecture series began from the month of June 2022 and is held every Saturday of every week. The lectures are organised under the aegis of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and Azadi Ka AmritMahotsav @75. The Topic of today's lecture was Introduction,Basic Practices and Techniques in Carnatic Music. The resource person for the lecture was Vidwan Peravali Nanda Kumar from Andhra Pradesh and the position of the chief guest was occupied by Dr.PragyaKhanna,the Principal of the College. Dr. PragyaKhanna in her address highly appreciated the idea of the series of lectures pertaining to the subject of music every week.
The resource person for the lecturePeravali Nanda Kumar is an A grade artist of All India Radioand well known musician of South India. He has performed in many prestigious festivals in India and abroad. he has received many titles and awards. He has performed with many renowned musicians of India. He in his lecture explained in detail about the basic techniques and practices in Carnatic Music. He briefed in detail about the tala system of Carnatic music.He also explained many forms of Carnatic music .
The programme began with a welcome address presented by Dr. Bharat BhushanHead, Department of Music of the college. On the occasion of completion of the 26th lecture of Manthan, he thanked all the resource persons of the series who had already given the lectures in the series. He also said that after the completion of the series a compiled book of all the proceedings and articles from all the lectures will be published.The work and initiative would be a contribution to the knowledge and literature in the field of music which would further strengthen the institution at large. The project is encouraged and inspired by the worthy Principal of the college Dr. PragyaKhanna.
The webinar was attended by the students, teachers and music lovers from across the nation. Many participants discussed and shared their views about the series. Those who attended the lecture were Prof Lokesh Joshi from Punjab, Dr. Sanjay Kalotra and Prof. Yash Kumar from GCWUdhampur College, Dr. Nishtha Sharma from Govt. MAM College, Jammu, Prof. Sujat Khan, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Dr. Davinder Kour, Prof. Manjot Singh, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Dr. Anil Dogra, Prof. Nidhi, Dr. Sukhdeep Singh Sasan, Dr Usha Rani, Dr Jyoti Rani, Dr. Arun Kumar, Prof. Vikram Jamwal, Dr. Mukesh Kumar and Dr. Ravinder Singh from Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar. At the end of the lecture Dr. Bharat Bhushan presented the formal vote of thanks.The programme was organised together with Department of Sociology and the Department of Physical Education and Sports in consultation and support of Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal of the college.
