SKUAST-J, YSPUHF-Solan Inks MOU

JAMMU, Dec 5: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been inked between Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan (H.P.) and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) here at Chatha, with the aim to exchange academic, research and extension strengths of both the Institutes in the area of Horticulture, Forestry and allied sectors.
YSPUHF-Solan in Himachal Pradesh was established in December 1985 and is a premier institute in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied sectors. Among its four constituent colleges, it has two colleges (one for horticulture and the other for forestry) at the Main Campus, Nauni Solan, a College of Horticulture & Forestry located at Neri in District Hamirpur; and another College of Horticulture and Forestry, Thunag located in District Mandi of Himachal Pradesh. The University has five Regional Research Stations, 12 Satellite Stations and five Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) situated in different zones of Himachal Pradesh to address the location specific research and extension aspirations of the stakeholders. whereas, SKUAST-Jammu has the mandate to conduct academics for UG and PG studies, address the basic, strategic and applied research related to enhanced production in agriculture, horticulture and allied sectors, besides conducting extension activities for the field functionaries and progress of farming community in different ago-climatic zones of Jammu Province
The MOU was signed between the Directors of Research of both the Universities, in presence of Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu. Prof. Sharma, in his words of wisdom, stated that this partnership is aimed at facilitating a close cooperation between both the Universities for NEP-2020 and would be a milestone in the area of strengthening teaching, research and extension programs, besides production of the disease-free, quality planting material of fruits and forest plants. Dr. Sanjeev K. Chauhan, Director Research of YSPUHF-Solan, thanked Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu for accepting their proposal to conduct the MOU between both the Universities for exchange of faculty and students of both the institutes that cater to similar agro-climatic climatic conditions in their respective regions, to have a better exposure of the biodiversity and to share the teaching & learning experiences.
Dr. Pardeep Wali, Director Research of SKUAST-Jammu briefed the house about the various objectives of the MOU for strengthening the teaching, research and extension programs in the University. He highlighted the strengths of both the Universities that can be shared and helpful to the students and the researchers as well. The MoU proceedings were coordinated by Dr. Mahital Jamwal, Associate Director (Research) of SKUAST-Jammu.
