YCET organised industrial visit cum educational trip

JAMMU, May 6: Students of Yogananda College of Engineering & Technology (YCET), Jammu visited famous Baglihar Hydro-electric Power Project at Chandrakote. The students were first taken to the Dam which serves as huge reservoir for Chenab water at Project Site followed by the production as well as the state- of- the- art control room where round the clock monitoring is maintained.
The students had intense interaction with Chief Engineer (Electrical) -Bhola Nath Bhandari Executive Engineer, Generation Division BHEP I&II - Sanjeev Kumar Bhagat, Assistant Executive Engineer (E/T.O) Sh. Sanjiv Singh and Assistant Executive Engineer (E/O&M) Ganesh Kumar. They were briefed on different facets of the 450 MW Hydro-electric project covering phase I which caters to electric supply across J&K and is hugely bolstered by another 450 MW Phase II project. Baghlihar Hydro electric Project is a run of the river power project on the Chenab River in the southern Doda District .The project was conceived in 1992, approved in 1996 and construction began in 1999.Dam was completed in 2004. The industrial visit provided a tremendous platform to young technocrats to experience world class technology and high end engineering employed in hydro power generation process. The industrial visit also afforded invaluable exposure to budding engineers in terms of industry interaction with seasoned industry personnel. The Bhagliar Hydroelectric Project features a concrete gravity dam, which is approximately 143 meters high and 363 meters long. It also includes an underground power house with three generating units, each with a capacity of around 150 MW, utilizing the water from the Chenab River to generate electricity. There are two phases of power generation. Phase-1 generates 450 MW and phase-2 also generates 450 MW The total capcity is 900 MW. Additionally, the project involves a reservoir for water storage and a network of tunnels and penstocks for water diversion and power generation.
The trip was then followed by night stay at Patnitop where students shared great camaraderie. Students enjoyed the DJ and bonfire, joyously grooved on their favorite songs to make the day memorable. On the very next morning the students were taken to the Sanasar and Nathatop. During the visit students witnessed breathtaking sightseeing and enjoyed the pleasant weather. Students had a great exposure and the trip further provided a perfect platform for the students to have bond with one another and to make lifelong memories.
