Traffic police Jammu concludes Training on New Criminal Laws

JAMMU, Feb 19: In line with the directions issued by the Government of India regarding the implementation of the three new criminal laws enacted in 2023, Traffic Police Jammu organized a series of training sessions to educate officers on these legal reforms.
A total of five batches were trained at Traffic Police Lines, Gulshan Ground, Jammu, starting from January 17, 2025. The training included detailed lectures on the new laws delivered by Sh. Arvinder Singh Kotwal, Addl. SP Traffic City Jammu, Sh. Faisal Arif Rishu, Dy. SP Traffic City South Jammu, and other senior officers.
Today, a valedictory function was held at the Conference Hall, District Police Lines, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, marking the conclusion of the training program. Dr. Mohd. Haseeb Mughal, IPS, DIG Traffic Range Jammu, was the Chief Guest, while Mr. Subash C. Gupta, District & Sessions Judge (Retd.), and Mr. Pawan Kumar Khajuria, Joint Director Prosecution (Retd.), attended as Guests of Honour. The event was also attended by Sh. Faisal Qureshi, JKPS, SSP Traffic City Jammu, Sh. Arvinder Singh Kotwal, JKPS, Addl. SP Traffic City Jammu, Dy. SsP Traffic City South/North/Rural Jammu, and other officers.
The event began with a welcome note by Dy. SP Traffic City South Jammu, who introduced the guests and provided an overview of the major changes in the three new laws-Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023.
The Retired District & Sessions Judge and Retired Joint Director Prosecution provided valuable insights into the significant legal reforms, addressing queries from the participants. Key topics covered included:
Zero FIR & Electronic FIR Registration
Videography during search and seizure
Use of handcuffs in specific cases
Community service for petty offences
Recognition of organized crime and terrorist acts under BNS
DIG Traffic Range Jammu, as the Chief Guest, emphasized the importance of technology-driven investigation through CCTNS, NAFIS, ICJS, and IRAD. He also highlighted the victim-centric approach, transparency, and accountability embedded in the new laws.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by SSP Traffic City Jammu, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, and all participants.
