Early Times Report
THANNAMANDI, Feb 20: Department of Political Science in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Government Degree College (GDC) Thannamandi organized awareness program on child labour and fundamental rights as part of the 75th Celebration of the Indian Constitution here today. On this occasion a thought-provoking skit on child labour and fundamental rights organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmed, Principal of College. Dr. Zubair Ahmed, HoD- Political Science co-ordinated the program aimed to raise awareness about the issue of child labour and its violation as fundamental right enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
The skit was performed by students who skilfully depicted the harsh realities of child exploitation, the socio-economic conditions that force children into labour, and the legal provisions that seek to protect and uplift underprivileged children. The performance emphasized the importance of Right to Education (Article 21A), Right Against Exploitation (Article 23 & 24), and the Directive Principles of State Policy, which advocate for the protection and welfare of children.
The students, through their dramatic presentation, successfully conveyed the urgent need to eradicate child labour and highlighted the role of society and government in ensuring the fundamental rights and dignity of every child. Their performance left a lasting impact on the audience, reinforcing the constitutional commitment to child welfare.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Farooq Ahmed applauded the initiative taken by the Department of Political Science and IQAC in sensitizing students about such a crucial issue. He appreciated the college drama club for its efforts in using creative performances as a medium to address social issues. He further emphasized that education plays a pivotal role in eliminating child labour and ensuring a better future for children. As a token of appreciation, he felicitated the student performers and encouraged them to continue participating in such awareness programs. The event witnessed active participation from faculty members, students, and NCC cadets, who were deeply moved by the performance.
