Statehood core issue of all people, BJP disrespecting mandate: Karra
2/20/2025 10:01:40 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 20: Stating that statehood is the core issue of people across length & breadth of Jammu & Kashmir, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra has accused BJP of disrespecting the overall mandate of people including massive mandate secured by them in Jammu too,in the name of statehood.
Karra also criticised the autocratic & anti democratic mindset of some officers in the administration, even after the coming into being of an elected government for over four months.
Addressing a press conference at PCC HQ today alongwith working President Raman Bhalla,Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Former minister Yogesh Sawhney,Ved Mahajan, Neeraj Gupta, Tariq Hameed Karra hit out at BJP for disrespecting the mandate of people especially the massive mandate secured by BJP in Jammu on the false promises of restoration of statehood but maintaining criminal silence now.
He said that during the ongoing campaign of Congress through out several districts of Jammu province including Udhampur Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban, Doda Kishtwar, there was massive response of the people and statehood remains the core issue of all sections of people.
There is strong resentment amongst people against centre government over the denial of statehood as a result the expectations from government are not getting fulfilled in absence of powers.
The genuine issues of different sections like daily wagers, need based, casual, adhoc & other such temporary, consilidated, adhoc, contractuals NHM, Anganwadi SPOs, data operators and such other sections are awaiting justice. The unemployed youth getting overaged.
He said that it has been observed that some officers in the administration have not changed their mindset from autocratic to democratic set up and have not adopted pro people and pro democratic culture in an elected democracy system as witnessed in Kishtwar district. The people are threatened to be lodged in jails under PSA for raising their issues of basic amenties of power and water through peaceful mode, which is recognised as democraric right.
The congress party too was denied to hold a outdoor workers meeting and this is unheard of in a democratic and elected government of which we too in coalition. It's the mindset of some offiicers or they were under instructions from top when they also claim complete normalcy.
He also said that instead listenting to the agitating people of chenab region for considering their demand for free or subsidised power supply to them being in vicinity of the numerous power projects, facing numerous hardships and health hazards, the administration is threatening them of putting criminal cases and PSA. Is it the way of dealing with people in a democracy. The government should work out a mechanism with centre too,to evolve some way to help people who are suffering in the region.
He also called for review of the Indus water as the time had come for the same. The people of J&K have suffered the most due to the treaty and should be taken special care.
He said people in the so -called smart cities of Jammu & Srinagar are not getting regular water and are being taxed while putting them in great hardships by Muncipal corporate authorities to deposit onlne money for tanker service, which was free earliet in unsmart city. It's duty of government to provide uninterrupted water and power supply especially in smart cities for which tax is charged.
The people are being fleeced for power tartiff hike, & metrers. People in rural areas have been imposed water tax without regular supply of water.
