SKUAST-Jammu hosts sessions on Agri-Tech careers

Jammu, Feb 22: Mr. Gulshan Singh Rana, recently appointed as Professor of Practice at SKUAST-Jammu under the industry-funded category during his two days visit to the university had an elaborate discussion with Prof. B. N. Tripathi, Honourable Vice- Chancellor on the enhancement of internship and placement opportunities for students, development of industry oriented curriculum and establishment of Bayer Learning Centre at SKUAST JAMMU. He was also engaged in insightful interactions with university undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. As the Head of market Development & Commercial Capability at Bayer Crop Science, he shared his valuable industry experience and provided students with a clear perspective on career opportunities in the private sector. Mr. Rana elaborated on the increasing role of technology-driven innovations in agriculture. He highlighted how agri-input companies, research-based multinational firms, and agritech startups are creating vast employment opportunities for young graduates. He encouraged students to develop industry-relevant skills, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability to thrive in private-sector roles. He also shared insights on career progression, job roles, and expected competencies in private companies. Mr. Rana introduced students to internship programs offered by Bayer, emphasizing their learning-driven approach and hands-on training. He also assured university faculty and students that Bayer is keen on collaborating with SKUAST-Jammu for structured internship and skill development programs in the future. He encouraged PhD scholars and faculty members to explore potential research projects, technology validation, and field trials with Bayer’s R&D teams. This interaction served as a motivational session for students, providing them with clarity on career options, internship pathways, and research opportunities in the private sector. The interaction programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Rajinder Peshin, Director Education and coordinated by Prof. Sanjay Guleria, I/C Counselling and Placement Placement Cell. The academic, RAWE and internship incharge of Faculties/Institute ensured the participation of UG, PG, and PhD students from different disciplines.
