Early Times Report
SAMBA, Mar 8: The NSS Units of Dogra Group of Colleges, comprising Dogra Law College, Dogra Degree College, and Dogra College of Education, commemorated International Women's Day with an insightful and thought-provoking event under the theme "Accelerate Action." The event aimed to highlight strategies, resources, and activities that drive progress toward gender equality and promote their widespread implementation.
Held at the Conference Hall of Dogra Educational Trust (DET), the celebration featured a keynote address by the distinguished Sr. Adv. Seema Khajooria Shekher, Senior Advocate at the Hon'ble High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Ms. Shuchi Sharma, Academic Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Dogra Law College, who set the stage for an engaging and empowering session.
In her compelling keynote address, Sr. Adv. Seema Khajooria Shekher underscored the significance of International Women's Day in recognizing the achievements of women across various fields while acknowledging the persistent challenges they face. She emphasized the need for accelerated action to ensure long-term and sustainable progress toward gender equality.
She particularly highlighted the underrepresentation of women in leadership roles across politics, law, business, and education, urging collective efforts to create inclusive opportunities that enable women to thrive. She also stressed the necessity of fostering supportive environments free from discrimination and violence, alongside the implementation of robust legal frameworks to uphold gender justice.
The powerful address resonated deeply with the audience, including faculty members, NSS volunteers, and students, inspiring them to take meaningful steps toward achieving gender equality.
Adding to the event's significance, Dr. Samar Dev Singh Charak, Secretary, Dogra Educational Trust, delivered a special address, advocating for the holistic empowerment of women. He emphasized that true empowerment extends beyond opportunities; it requires cultivating a mind-set of equality, confidence, and resilience. His speech encouraged collective responsibility in fostering a society where women can realize their full potential.
As a token of appreciation, Dr. Bela Thakur, Director, Dogra Group of Colleges, presented a memento to Sr. Adv. Seema Khajooria Shekher, recognizing her valuable contribution to the event and the broader cause of gender equality.
A unique and engaging segment, "Pick & Perform - Faculty Special," was led by Ms. Suhani Bhasin, NSS Programme Officer and Lecturer, Dogra Law College. This activity brought together faculty members and guests in a spirited performance, symbolizing unity and empowerment.
